Eagle Scout
John Harold Merrill with
Governor Fob James
In May of 1980, John achieved the rank of
Eagle Scout, which is the highest rank a young man can attain in the
Boy Scouts of America. John, along with all the other young men in
Alabama who achieved that rank were invited by
Governor Fob James to attend the first annual Eagle Scout Day with the
Governor at the Montgomery Civic Center on February 9, 1981.
In the summer of 1981 and the summer of
1982, John worked as a counselor and assistant program director at Comer
Scout Reservation in Mentone. He was the first scout from Heflin Troop 206
to hold that distinction. Here, John is pictured with Governor James
after the Eagle luncheon. |
